Synergistic Activity of Moringa Oleifera and Thyme Vulgaris Essential Oil Against Streptococcus Mutans: An Observational Study

Background: Dental caries still remain a highly prevalent disease among all age groups especially children. It is caused due to repetitive and/or prolonged demineralization of tooth enamel by exposure low pH from organic acids produced acidogenic oral bacteria during fermentation dietary carbohydrates. Streptococcus mutans facultative anaerobic , gram positive cocci commonly found in the human cavity which plays an important role causing dental caries. Moringa oleifera Lam. (drumstick tree) Moringaceae family member possesses variety advantageous biological properties, such as immunomodulatory, anticancer, antiulcer and antimicrobial properties. Thymus vulgaris pleasant smelling perennial shrub has direct influence on many species. The use combinations these two EOs their components are thus new approach increase efficacy taking advantage synergistic additive effects. Materials methods: broth microdilution method was used determine minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) essential oils. MIC Moringa, Thyme combination both oils against S.mutans were assay assessed at different concentration level. Results: activity M.oleifera, T.vulgaris proven with value 2.5%v/v, 0.03906% respectively. Conclusion: oil can be good agent treat various Streptococci borne infections. Further incorporation this into drug formulations also recommended well systemic
